For Schools

An alternative, vocational pathway for students

You want the best for all your students - fulfilling futures where they can be fully independent. You recognise that the conventional academic pathway isn't the bet fit for some of the young people you work with. Project SEARCH offers an excellent alternative for students in the form of "supported internships" which gives the, immediate, direct experience of real work in the form of 3, 10-week job placements where they learn hands-on skills, receive job-coaching and work to receive a nationally-recognised ASDAN employability qualification.

If you have students:
  • are aged 16-24
  • With a EHC Plan
  • That have the potential to develop skills required to meet the needs of a business
  • is within traveling distance of Waltham Forest

Have a chat to them about Project SEARCH and what it offers

How it works in practice

  • The whole programme runs on a yearly basis and we take applications starting in January - you can find the intern application form at the bottom of this page.
  • The first set of  interviews for interns take place in February half term and are told if they have been successful in March
  • Later applicants are interviewed in May and are told if their application is successful in June.

The programme the starts formally in September and runs five days a week, for a full academic year.  It starts with a 2-3 week induction course and then typically, interns complete three work placements of between 10 – 12 weeks in length.

Interns are expected to travel to the workplace where possible and those working with Barts Health at Whipps Cross or the Royal London hospitals take part in the the Barts Health NHS Trust induction and new employee checks and follow the Trust's Occupational Health guidelines and policies.

Our interns are completely immersed in the work environment, either working in their placement or in group sessions studying for an ASDAN-accredited employability qualification.
